W.H.Smith architectural model of deco building
An architectural model of the W.H Smith building, Bridge House", designed by Herbert O Ellis & Clarke and architect to W.H Smith , F.C Bayliss. From the archives of W.H Smith this is a rare one off example. Finished front and back , the base applied with a painted plaque "Bridge House. Lambeth. The New Stationary Factory of W.H Smith & Son" Opened in 1935 "Bridge House" which stood on the Albert Embankment S.E,1 . Despite being regarded as one of the best example of interwar factory buildings to have been built in London it was demolished in the 1970's without resistance and largely been forgotten about. The base of the model is fitted with a lighting tube and the clock tower with a single light bulb holder which the new owner could have re-instated. I have taken a photo with a lighted bar drop to get the idea of how it would look illuminated. Measures 51 cm high x 69 cm wide x 13 cm deep
