Cotswold School three section wardrobe c1928 by Gordon Russell

Cotswold School three section wardrobe c1928 by Gordon Russell (1892-1980) . Wonderful Arts and Crafts wardrobe each section fitting onto stand, with an assortment of drawers and cupboard with fielded panel with ebonised handles. 'The Russell Workshops' paper label, designer Gordon Russell, cabinet maker C. Turner made from Brown Oak. Brown Oak is technically not a distinct species of oak, but rather refers to oak (almost always English Oak or another European species) that has been infected with a fungus. This fungus (Fistulina hepatica) has the effect of turning the wood a deep brown color.
Not as common as regular oak many people are willing to pay a premium for the rich, aged-look of Brown Oak. Superb craftmanship throughout, a pleasure to use. Measures 183cm high, 175cm wide. Breaks down into three sections plus the base for easy access.Provenance:
Purchased from Gordon Russell by Mrs Hart of Erdington as a wedding gift for her daughter and son in law Mr & Mrs Leonard Sadler, thence by descent.
